Expert Answers about Power Steering Coolers

  • Can a Supplemental Power Steering Cooler Be Installed on a 2008 Honda Odyssey with Factory Cooler
  • When installing a power steering cooler like # D13200 on a vehicle that has a factory power steering cooler, the best thing to do is install the supplemental cooler in line with the factory cooler. What you will do is find the return line from the factory cooler that leads back to the power steering pump. The factory return line will run to supplemental cooler # D13200 and then from there back to the pump. I have included a picture showing the direction of flow for you.

  • Power Steering Cooler Recommendation for a 2000 Mazda B3000 Pickup
  • Power Steering coolers are not vehicle specific items, so any cooler that fits in front of the radiator or air conditioning condenser on your 2000 Mazda B3000 Pickup would be a good choice. The larger the cooler is the better it will perform so I recommend getting the largest cooler that will fit easily. Measuring is required. The Derale Power Steering Cooler, item # D12213, would be a good choice and you will need an area at least 9-1/8 inches Wide x 2-1/2 inches tall x 3/4 inches deep...

  • Adding an Engine Oil Cooler and a Power Steering Cooler to a 2007 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4.0L V6
  • Thanks for asking about a Power Steering Cooler and Engine Oil cooler for your 2007 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6. Adding two more coolers is not going to present a cooling issue for your engine/radiator. The coolers allow air to flow through them and will not transfer enough heat to the air going through them to effect the cooling performance of the vehicle's radiator. Your engine oil filter has 3/4-16 threads. So you can determine the correct threads to use from the recommended kits below,...

  • Are Power Steering Coolers Designed to Fit Specific Vehicles
  • Power steering coolers are not designed or made to fit specific vehicles, and though the Derale 4-Pass Tube-Fin Power Steering Cooler # D13212 with 11/32" hose barb inlets is very likely to work, we do not have access to the specific fittings for your 2013 Ford Expedition or any other vehicle. The only way to do this for sure is to place a quick call to your local Ford dealer, who should be able to give you this information.

  • Can a Transmission Cooler Like Derale # D13101 Be Used to Cool Engine Oil
  • Engine fluid coolers are not vehicle-specific nor are they fluid-specific. Any given cooler could be used to cool power steering fluid, transmission fluid or engine oil. The factor to consider is the required fittings to install a cooler for a given application. Transmission, engine oil and power steering fittings vary. As long as you have the correct adapters/fittings to connect a cooler to its fluid circuit you could use just about any cooler to good effect to reduce the fluid's operating...

  • Transmission and Power Steering Cooler for a 2007 Honda Odyssey
  • Honda has traditionally required a transmission cooler and power steering cooler for towing but not an engine oil cooler. You can double check by looking in the towing section of your 2007 Honda Odyssey owner's manual. With that said coolers are not vehicle specific so you can use # D15230. The great thing about a cooler that has its own fan is that it does not have to be placed in front of the AC condenser core. It can be placed anywhere there is space. This particular cooler is 12-3/4"...

  • The Derale Combination Transmission/Engine Oil Cooler Core, part # D13302, offers the convenience of being able to cool two engine fluids within one single housing. The protocol for cooling engine fluids is generally to cool the engine oil as a first priority, followed by the transmission fluid, and then the power steering fluid. • Derale Transmission Cooler for 2003 Ford Explorer Towing 3200-lb Boat Trailer

Coolers are also not vehicle-specific; you can use the largest cooler that will fit the space available for mounting one. The term 'tow package' does NOT always mean exactly the same thing. Various auto makers will use that same terminology for vehicles that differ substantially in their included equipment.
